    Default has anyone seen this?

looking in the attic of a house built in the 60's and saw cuts in rafters and joints. I've never seen this before wondering if it is normal in any way, or as crazy as it looks?

It looks like there is a supporting wall below those splices. If there are no visible issues with the ceiling finish, I wouldn't be worried. There might have been a design change that called for those joists to be extended.

There are a few cracks, possibly settling? There is a supporting wall, so sounds like yuo are correct. Thanks so much for your reply.
