Here's an interesting one for you ... house built in 1921. Addition put on in 1966. A gas line runs from the basement of the house to the crawlspace of the addition. It was capped off in the basement (assuming no longer in use, which is typical). The gas supply is in the basement, so this was likely some sort of point of use.

In the crawl space, the line turns down next to the side wall, transitions to galvanized pipe and then disappears outside. It's either 3/8 or 1/2 in side. Odd, huh?

If it ran outside and turned down, I'd assume it was for a BBQ, accessory structure, etc., but inside???
