    At least he only used 2 layers of shingle for shims.

    Just buying a hammer and a saw does not make one a "journeyman". I'd say a 'wannabe'

    Agreed but haven't you ever seen journeymen work that looks like this picture ? I have and the journeyman claimed he'd been in the biz 20+ years.
