    Default Re-painting Corroded Steel Stairs

Anyone have links for objective sources of information WRT the best methods of re-painting corroded steel exterior stairs? I can find plenty of discussion and "advice", but none of it appears to be based on actual studies or testing of coatings/methods.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't know about stairs but you might check out website dealing with restoring old cars, there is a lot of information on how to remove & convert rust and painting.

You did not say rusted but used the term corroded. Depending on how far gone the metal is would determine what to use if anything but just replacing them.

Being where you are I am picturing pretty corroded steel fire escapes. It may be extremely worth having someone check them out. Looking solid may just be the immediate visual but destined to fail any day now.

Thanks for the responses - these are the poorly originally painted steel stairs and landings frequently seen at the rear of Chicago condos built post 1990.
