    Default register in garage

I am having a bad day and can't remember is it acceptable to have a heat register vent directly into the garage?

    Cory,
If it's combustion air for the furnace OK.

    Not OK.
*doesn't matter if it's a supply or return. Possible for car exhaust to enter the conditioned

That does not look like combustion air.
It looks like a return, and no its not allowed.

Is it just me? Isn't that a downdraft furnace in the garage? Doesn't appear to be ductwork shared with the house. Looks like the furnace sits above the register. Cover for the furnace is in the lower right corner of the picture. Looks fine to me.

It looks like a downdraft furnace with a register open to the garage but an establishing shot would be helpful.
Any conditioned air duct is not allowed to be open to the garage.

Or an updraft split system with a Goofy combustion air draw.

Is that duct board around the unit just there for looks (ugly looks, but still for looks) or is that the supply (or return) plenum?

If that is supply or return plenum, then the entire thing leaking air to the garage or sucking air from the garage.

No only if it has all solid 26 gage sheet metal all the way back to the unit to maintain the fire envelope

    Not even then.

The question was not about "duct work" in the garage, the question was about a supply register open to the garage.

NO supplies or intakes (returns) in a garage for a unit/system which is for the living space ... NONE.
