    At the University we had concrete walls in the dorms. I built a book shelf that was hung by bolts in the concrete and 4 chains. this allowed us to not take any floor space for the book shelf (we had vaulted cieling on the top floor of the dorms). There was no other anchor to the walls at all, no ledger etc. Worked excellently and we left it behind along wiht an MC Escher taking up one entire wall (painted on).

    Except for the limiting strength of bailing wire the concept is actually great.

    Did you find the label on that wire that lists the load rating. It would have probably been pretty small! :>}
