    Thanks Raymond, very interesting. I was particularly interested in Case 13-45 where it indicates that the inspector later joined and was granted license to practice with another association.

    Currently each of the associations in BC must submit a monthly report on complaints and status against licensed practitioners to Consumer Protection BC. I believe this is a great step forward for accountability. However, this does not stop the fact that an inspector could jump ship to another association without a lot of unknown "baggage".

    From a legal perspective regarding freedom of information - PIPEDA will apply to any organization in respect of its disclosure of personal information for consideration outside the province that has the legislative authority to regulate the collection, use or disclosure of that information.

    Personal information cannot be disclosed from one organization, nor collected by another organization to whom the information is disclosed, without the consent or knowledge of the individual, except in very limited circumstances. Unless the home inspector members have signed a broad consent to allow disclosure of their personal information, it seems unlikely that one organization would be able to disclose personal information.

    I found this a bit of a knee slapper;
    Case 11-38
    "The Inspector was prepared to reduce his fee if the clients did not wish to purchase the property."

    This is typical of complaints seen on this side of the Canadian-USA border. Most are not serious failures by the inspector.

    We are in a business where we are expected to be perfect on every inspection, every day, every week, every year..........that's a high hurdle to get over.

    If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
