Default Register/vent in hallway half bathroom.

Inspected a 2014 house today that did not have a ceiling register in the half bathroom. I thought every room had to be conditioned. There was a ceiling fan though.

    Please comment!

    Thanks in advance,

    Jim

ONLY HABITABLE space requires HVAC. Closets, hallways, bathrooms are not considered habitable space and so not required.

Refer to the definition section. Habitable Space: A space in a building for living, sleeping, eating, or cooking. Bathrooms, toilet rooms, closets, halls, storage or utility spaces and similar areas are not considered habitable spaces.

    Bathrooms do require ventilation.

It is very common in my area to find no supply vent in a completely interior (no exterior walls) 1/2 bath or master bath toilet room. Since there are no exterior walls an exhaust fan is required. Local jurisdictions feel that a room completely surrounded by heated/cooled rooms will maintain the same temperature. I note in my report this is common in our area with fully interior small rooms. Of course if it is not common in your area.....
