The use of products not listed for use with solid aluminum conductors is just one issue that me be at play in a home that is wired with this product. I have attached a document I print out and present to my clients that covers the subject well. I would recommend further evaluation of the system and not try to identify if the recepticles are rated for AL wiring. This may give a false sense of security that there are no other defects in the system.

"Warning: cigarettes are hazardous to your health"

The article Billy posted sounds like it was written by the cigarette industry, there is no problem with cigarettes and we have the studies to prove it that we bought and paid for.

I will second Jerry's comment. Excellent write-up Carl, I too have added that to my library on the subject. The CPSC brochure might be better (easier to digest) for the average home owner, but you can never have too much good information.
    Thanks.

    Dan,

To the best of my memory, the switches and receptacles stamped with "CO/ALR" are supposed to be effective when used with solid strand aluminum. However, I did see some of those go bad several years ago. Take a look at the info posted by Richard and they mention the same thing. As a result, I do what Carl suggested and defer to an electrical contractor.
