Default Circulator Attached to Direct Vent Wtr Htr

50 gallon, direct vent, natural gas water heater in garage on 18 inch stand. There is a pipe connected to the water heater about a foot above the burner into the side of the water heater. Installed in the pipe is a Circulator Taco Cartridge that has a power cord. Power cord is not plugged in. No solar water heater panels were observed.

Not sure what a Circulator Taco Cartridge is. Any guesses?

Someone was talking to me on the phone while I was taking the pictures distracting me and I thought I got enough. Now I am not sure.

    Bruce,

It looks like it is a re-circulatory pump. Most I see are unplugged also.

    Bruce,

I'm not sure about the Taco.

But as you have posted the pictures,

The flue looks to Flat needs (1/4 " per foot up slope.)

The pipe insulation can not be in contact with the flue as it is combustible.

Thanks to one and all. I forgot to check google myself. Silly me.

I just assumed it to be some home inspector thing I didn't know about.

This house had a number of "upgrades". Whoever lived there was a very busy person. They had a cat door through the kitchen wall that lead into a bench seat on the deck. The bench seat was enclosed on all sides. Inside the bench seat was a ramp down to grade. Under the deck was enclosed in wire mesh. Kitty could go outside but be still be contained at the same time. There was an opening in the mesh that led to another mesh box. It was the litter box. Under the deck was covered with gravel.

Recirculating pump, does not do any good if not plugged in.

Recirculating pump wired with extension cord with end cut off - NOT GOOD. Needs to have a receptacle outlet down within reach of a standard appliance cord, of the cord and plug which came with that if it came with a cord and plug. Also, a proper (and properly installed) cord strain relief clamp is needed at the pump.

Nothing is holding that T&P CPVC (looks like CPVC) discharge line in place, that thing could move around under emergency discharge conditions.

Are you sure that is direct vent? You mean fan assisted? Looks like a blower fan on top.

    Bruce,

    That is one pampered cat.

Reminds me though of a T-shirt I saw this guy wearing the other day.

It said, "I Love Cats.. I just can't eat a whole one by myself"

The ones I like is the people who have a complete homemade HVAC system set up for the exterior dog house.
