In the land of earthquakes we can rest easy knowing we are safe and secure with structural bolting into the brick supporting walls of our 3 story buildings. I'll bet the guy drilling the holes for this retro-fit bolting was pleased that it 'drilled through like butter'.
This was a 3' foot high brick wall between the concrete foundation and the first floor wood framing. That's how they did it back then...I guess they didn't want to form up for concrete at that last 3 feet. Heck, it's been there for a 100 years. Could last another few years, I guess.

Actually, I told them about the lack of integrity of bolting into the brick....
Gravity (so far) here is doing its' job. Just don't put the bolts to the test....
