Default Gap between weep screed and stem wall

Any of you guys where these single coat stucco systems are super popular see this... the big gap between the screed and stem? Some of these gaps get up to an inch.
I only really see this on single coat systems lately here is sunny Ca..
    thanks

    Marc,

Do you have a not-quite-so-close photo that puts it in proper orientation for 'up'?

I ask as that does not look like weep screed from that distance (close up) and angle.

The weep screeds I'm familiar with are different, they have a (end profile view) vertical leg of about 3", an outward angled bent leg of the thickness of the system, then an inward angled leg back to the wall, with a small outward angled drip edge.

The holes in perforated ones are for the stucco material to key into.

    Marc,

My experience has been that when the weep screed is away from the edge of the foundation, it's usually because someone doesn't know how to use a tape measure. I often see where it tapers aas well. The person measuring one end of the building "burned" an inch and the person on the other end didn't. Either the foundation was too small or the framers made the walls hang over the edge of the concrete.

Unless the framers didn't take the thickness of the plywood shearwall into account when laying-out the plate.

Something is up with that. The one coat stucco jobs that I have seen do not have a gap like that at all. I am also in Ca. What's the point of even having a weep screed when there is such a gap? So, I agree with what Gunnar said.

Not to mention that here the bees would be building nests in that cavity. So, I would also report possible pest intrusion.
