Electrical shock at switch when turning on light

Hi all

Brand new build with deck issues and now this. Nine out of ten times when you turn lights on at switch and you also touch outlet cover mounting screw you get a slight shock on the old finger. Everything looked good in service panel. And you got shocked on carpet and on wood floors.

Sounds like static electricity.

That gets me a lot in the winter, wood floors here too, but it doesn't take much carpet or fabric to get the charge up, then looks for a path to ground, such as those screws, or even another object (door knobs are at discharging the static charge to).

If you are concerned about the grounds not being grounded, use a VOM and measure voltages hot-ground and hot-neutral, they should be the same as they are bonded together back at the service equipment (you might find mV differences due to slight differences in resistances due to connections).

Got up from the sofa aftet the news a couple of nights ago, touched the cat's nose ... POW! ... got us both. Yep, the cat hid from me for a while as it had no idea what happened, but didn't want it to happen again.
