Default Inspection News causing Mozilla to freeze?

    Good morning.

Of late, I have noticed occasionally logging on or or not logging onto IN that my web browser crashes, and the words "not responding" come up necessitating me having to terminate the Mozilla.

Any ideas as to the cause?

    Thanks.

Is this problem just on Inspector news? or is it also happening on other web sites?

Firefox is a great browser. That said it is a HUGE memory hog. The more tabs you open and close the more memory it uses and it does not release it all back to be used again. Your system could be low on memory which causes lag or the possible "not responding".
    Try this
-bring up Windows task manager (control, alt, del)
    -click view tab
    -click "select columns"
    -check "Virtual memory size"
    -click OK
-click the VM size column heading twice which will show the highest user first.
You now can track the virtual memory size on task manager, which is actually the page file on the hard drive that Windows uses when it runs out of memory. You will also see the memory usage go up as the VM size increases. It will keep growing until Windows needs more and thats when your system really slows down.
2 solutions, reboot, or just shut down Firefox and start it up again.
Firefox will normally (depending on number of tabs open) use 80,000k. When you get up to 200,000k (depending on your page file and amount of memory) you may start noticing problems. I just checked mine and I am using 250,000.
Well all for now, I have to shut down Firefox.

Also fwiw, Inspection News is the only site that causes my browser to freeze. I have also increased my cache in Mozilla from 50 mb to 100 mb, not sure if that helps, but will see what happens or doesn't happen.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
I don't think this is your problem, the cache is just an area on your hard drive used for reloading websites you have been to recently. It makes the loading quicker than having to download it from the web again. An example would be when you use the back button.
But hey, anything is worth a try.

Trying Netscape to see if the same problem replicates itself.

Hmmm......... that is the first I've heard of this issue.

I have tested it on many different platforms and have not had any issues. Also, judging by the amount of views/post I'm guessing that it is a local issue with your computer but I want to stay on top of it just in case.

Let me know if there are any other problems.

    Thanks for the help.

I am using Netscape v. 9.0.0.4 and no issues while viewing IN and posting this message.

Just attempted to log in to IN using Mozilla, got logged in okay and then hit New Posts and viola, the web page freezes and the banner on my browser (Mozilla) says, Mozilla Firefox (Not Responding) and the hour glass icon continues to stay on.

    Thank you for your help!

Up until about a week and a half ago, when my old laptop bought the farm, I was using Firefox.... no problems.

I had tried everything I could think of to eliminate the freezes with no results.

Deleted then reinstalled FireFox and now no Freezes.

    Thanks for the replies.

Strangely, the problem now seems to be intermittent with Mozilla when viewing IN. I used Mozilla to this post, and it froze, thus necessitating posting with Netscape.

Tried everything except a complete reload. Updating to 2.0.0.12 seem to work but alas this latest post was thwarted yet again by Mozilla. Even did extensive Google searches about this and carried out the various procedures.

.. Oh well, its not the end of the world, so I will live with it.

    Thanks again.

I was having some problems several months ago with Firefox and went through the process of removing the application and re-installing. Problems were still there !

Ended up that I had to dig deeper as some of the original FFox files were still being called up with the new installation and kept the problem/corrupted files around.

I found a process (via web search) to get rid of the corrupted files then reloaded the new version of FFox and the hiccup was gone.

I have found freezing occurs regardless if I log in or not.

It seems to be an intermittent glitch in any event.

    Thanks for the help.

And this message was posted using Mozilla.

    Cheers,

Disable your add-ons, if you have any, and restart Firefox. There were security issues with 2.0.0.11. When .12 came out, a lot of problems came up related to add-ons - particularly security add-ons.
