    Default Black iron pipe

I ran into a main water supply pipe Friday that at visible area in crawlspace was black iron pipe generaly used for gas line. I wrote it up as improper material as it will rust easily. I am not sure if it ran all the way to meter, not visible. Any comments?

Any rust in the water yet? Good call. And the repair certainly worked in a pinch but life has it's rules and you usually get caught for cheating.

Black iron pipe isn't even NSF rated for potable water, is it? Good call. The things we see ...

Definitely not in Table P2904.5, Water Distribution Pipe as an allowed pipe, nor is it in Table P2904.4, Water Service Pipe as an allowed pipe.

Are you sure it is not the gas supply. Did you actually see where it entered into the home and was piped off of that?

Maybe someone surface painted it because of surface rust........
I doubt it runs to the meter. I think county would of picked up on that, don't you think.

    Just wondering..........

Mike, It was the water supply line, no doubts-none. I am not sure how far it ran towards meter as it is underground and I could not see at meter.
