    Default Furnace recalls etc.

    Does anyone investigate information on furnace recalls or other info relating to problems with certain furnaces or even AC units? I recently had a buyer that was selling his home alert me of problen with Carrier and Bryant furnaces with the secondary heat exchanger having issues in a class action law-suit on certain model furnaces manufactured after 1988. The home he was buying that I was inspecting has the same furnace. I would have never known this information if he didn't bring it up. Don't the HVAC companies that install them know these type of things and follow-up on them? Or does the manufacturers keep it under the lid?

    Thanks

    This disclaimer appears on all my reports;

    "Research on product recalls or notices of any kind are not part of this inspection. I recommend visiting
    http://www.recalls.com/ or http://www.cpsc.gov/."

    Oops, I think the recall site is Recalls.gov. A search of recalls .com turned up naught.

    Your Buyer or someone he knows saw the ad that was run in newspapers and magazines nationwide in December 2007: Furnace claims legal advertisement.

    I'm constantly cruising the newspapers and magazines and saving articles that relate to my business and interests. I'll scan them to my computer and when I need them I know where to find them. Right now I'm in the process of uploading and storing 43 years worth of articles at my wise old grandmother's web site (My Wise Old Grandmother). From the Internet I store links unless I choose to get permission to post the actual Internet article on my site (as an example, see Zoey, page 2).

    My STANDARD, PREMIUM, and TECH inspections include recall research on the property.

    Back in 2001, before opening my doors for business, I sat down and studied all the recalls that had ever been issued by the CPSC that involved real estate and made a list. Then I subscribed to the CPSC recall notices so that I never miss a recall regardless of what it relates to. When a recall comes through that relates to real estate, I update my list so that it is always current. You can see a sample of my list here: Russel Ray, Property Consultant, page 3.

    I also have a document that I wrote for my Clients (and my employees, family, friends, and acquaintances) that teaches them how to search for recalls at the CPSC site and how to sign up for recall notices. It's a free document: How to do CPSC recall research.

    If one finds any free documents on my site that might help one in one's business, feel free to use them. Documents that are for sale for 99¢ for $4.99 give you unlimited use of the document for your business, such as the complete CPSC recall list I created, as well as my document on "Protecting your home from wind-driven wildland fires using landscaping, vegetation,
    and home maintenance" and my "Vegetation" document, a discussion of how vegetation affects our homes and how to use native vegetation and xeriscaping to help prevent many problems. Samples of those two documents also available at Russel Ray, Property Consultant, page 3

    I also research and write documents and Internet material for others, any topic, and do business and marketing consulting. As my wise old grandmother said, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."

    OOOps... Thanks Don.
    Goes to illustrate that if you mess up, you get called on it.
