    Default it's all just "simple mathematics"

    This is a strictly mathematical viewpoint...

    it goes like this:

    What Makes 100%?

    What does it mean to give MORE than 100%?

    Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%?

    We have all been to those meetings where someone wants you to give Over 100%. How about achieving 103%?

    What makes up 100% in life?

    Here's a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these questions:

    If:
    A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z
    is represented as:
    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26.

    Then:
    H-A-R-D-W-O-R-K
    8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 = 98%

    and
    K-N-O-W-L-E-D-G-E
    11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5 = 96%

    But,
    A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E
    1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5 = 100%

    And,
    B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T
    2+21+12+12+19+8+9+20 = 103%

    AND, look how far asskissing will take you.
    A-S-S-K-I-S-S-I-N-G
    1+19+19+11+9+19+19+9+14+ 7 = 118%

    So, one can conclude with mathematical certainty that While Hard work and Knowledge will get you close, and Attitude will get you there, it's the Bullshit and Asskissing that will put you over the top. (you know who you are)

    yes but knowledgeable hard work with a good attitude equals 295%
    while bullshit along with asskissing only gets you 221%
    And we all know that is how the grouping works. Nice to have the numbers though. And that comment was not meant to be in the latter group

    A. Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, and child) you each get $516,528.

    B. Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

    C. Or... if you are a family of four... your family gets $2,066,012.

    I guess I am only giving about 98% I think that would be good enough. I don't beat around the bush (bull s**t) I don't get around the back side of the bush (kiss ***) I will settle for 98%

    I did not come from an upper middle income family (more like low middle income), so financially, I do not remember the good old days being so good as a kid in the 50's.

    As far as paying more for everything and being taxed to death and receiving less and being indebted to death.

The French are great with loving their speech and language and over the millenium wound up kissing them selves in the mirror everyday. Our politicians have followed suit. Have you noticed Mr Obama's posing and posturing. This man has practiced his trade for to long already. He truly does believe he is Gods' gift to America already.

    The space shuttle main engines can operate in a range of 65 to 109%. You get the extra power because the original design thrust range can be exceeded.

    Actually, then, the space shuttle main engines can operate in a range of 56% to 100%.

    Moving the scale down 95 to accommodate "design" versus "actual".

    The statement that it can operate at 109% is false in and of itself. It only becomes true when "qualified" by the addition of 'it can operate at 109% *of its design parameters*', which is really not 109%, but 100%, thus, it could be said that its design thrust was only 91.7% of it final thrust.

    or,

    maybe it could be said that it operates at f+bullshit?

    It is important to the program to maintain the ratings in relation to the original design. The space shuttle is a carefully balanced machine. There are risks when you exceed the design criteria but there are circumstance when it may become necessary. For instance if you have an engine out during launch you may push the other two engines past the design criteria in order to reach an objective such as a Trans Atlantic abort or an abort to orbit. Abort to orbit takes you once around the earth and back to KSC or Edwards for a landing.

    In these cases it is worth the risk because a return to launch site (RTLS) is a high risk manuver that no one really wants to try.

    There are also impact to the engines that may affect refurbishment.

    In order to always maintain an awareness of the risks and other impacts to the hardware associated with exceeding the vehicle design, the program continues to recognize the original design criteria as the baseline.

    You missed my point.

    While you can operate anything capable of it at 'greater than 100% design', however, you cannot operate anything at 'greater than 100%'.

    No I didn't miss your point. By the end of elementary school I had enough math to understand your point about percents. My point is actually different than yours: That there are legitimate reasons to step outside of literal definitions. Things can be redefined.

    100% is 100%

    When you put the pedal to the medal and hold it there on the salt flats it (what ever it is ) is going to only go so fast before breaking or just plain ole stop. That point is a 100%. You just can't do any better than that!!!!

    If you modify it and push it to the limit, what ever that limit is is a 100%.

    When I scream at the top of my lungs and cannot scream any louder, that is a 100% It does not matter what is designed into it for over limits. What ever the over limit is, is 100%

    Yes, things can be redefined, however, after redefining, 100% is still 100%, it's just that the 100% mark has moved.

    Now, if you are referring to '100% of design', that is different, and that is what I am pointing out, and what you did not state.

    I can design something to meet a specific goal of going 100 mph, and it ends up going 150 mph, that is 150% of the design, but it is 100% of its capability.

    I have been trying to show you that you missed stating 109% of design, instead you simply stated 109%, and you cannot do 109% of the plain and simple.

    None of the math in the world nor the rocket science in the world can change 100% of anything. It can change 100% of design, yes, but not 100% of it's capability.

    Sorry Jerry I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. I wasn't arguing with you and I didn't realize that my statements and observations were a challenge to you.

    If it makes you feel better Jerry you are right. 100% is absolutely 100% and there is no way that it can be any other way and to point out that others may have legitimate reasons for referring to a system operating at 109% was wrong on my part.

    Feel better now. I sure hope so because I know how important this is to you.

    Jerry doesn't really get ruffled, its just a hobby.


    Its black and white with him, throw in some other view points and he will shoot them down based on the basic simple facts or words used.

    Not that many on here are really all that wrong with their views, but just a simple technicality with their word choice etc. will bring Jerry to the surface.

    You gotta respect his attention to detail, really.

    Actually everything I posted was honest and accurate and it doesn't conflict in the least with what Jerry posted. It is just Jerry's nature to look for a fight and when one is found he will go well beyond reason to win. He can have this one. I'm done.
