Default I Beams Supporting Garage Slab

What are the purpose of the 2x6's. This is below a garage slab. Sorry for all the questions, I have just been running into stuff I have never seen before.

I would think a nailing surface.

I agree, looks like the I beams and garage slab are pitched, the blocking was added so the siding could be installed level. With very little effort they could have made the finished product look much better.

    Yeah the questions are fine.

Careful John, you might just start another tussle with a comment like that.

I agree with Chris, the blocking appears to be installed to provide nailing for siding below the steel beams. With that much visibility underneath, you would expect the builder to cover up the messy looking blocking. Just my opinion.

He probably thought it would be covered with snow 6 months out of the year, so what the hell

    M.S.

    Does it really matter?

With that "decorative" applied masonry "work" on/up the pilings/piers lapping everything, esp. at the siding/sheathing/skirting corner, nailers, siding/skirting, etc. it will all soon require R&R anyway, perhaps next time with flashing and drip edges, isolation, and drainage paths; and hopefully before any further structural componant corrosion, deterioration or compromise.

I would guess the geotech and structural engineers stamps on the plans or report(s)/plans/notations might be on file with the AHJ.
