Questionable purlin?
Hello friends,

Any thoughts about the left (notched) end of this purlin and the bracing arrangement? Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Questionable purlin?
FWIW none.
I like the notched purlin support rather than a nailed cleat.
Shall we assume the ceiling joist are running in the same diection as the rafters, otherwise?

Re: Questionable purlin?
Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the feedback. I was not wild about brace on the left and was also concerned about the cut-out in the purlin itself on the left end (not a great picture- tight attic to navigate) this in compromising the purlin stregnth- no? Oh, and yes, the ceiling joists are running in the same direction as the rafters. Thanks again.

Re: Questionable purlin?
That was the last 2x6, the one the screwed up when cutting rafters.
I know it exceeds the notching rules, but at least it is not mid-span.
