Re: Odd Purlin Brace (?) System
Jeff,

Never saw that before.

My first thought is that the roof was sagging due to a re roof of say, tiles, after the roof was originally designed for the load of shingles or shakes?

Just a guess.

Re: Odd Purlin Brace (?) System
I think it is fine. With that short of a span on the rafters, a purlin might not even be needed.

Re: Odd Purlin Brace (?) System
I see purlins installed in that manner all of the time. The purlins should be the same size as the rafters that they are supporting. Am I correct in determining that the rafters are 2x4s?

Travis
