Default Stair step cracks ,no crack in foundation ,8 foot from window

I'm new to this forum and was wondering if any of you guys can help.Found stair step cracking in the morter joints,on a 2 story home 38-40 years old. The cracks are on the far right corner where a fire place chimney is present and are only on one side of the corner .The cracks ended at the window without any indication of foundation damage (at this point).I'm considering siting the possibility of foundation movement ?

Next issue is definite foundation movement with 2 hairline cracks found in 2 areas at the front of the home. The floor in the home is out of level all the way through and there is apparent movement because I found signifigant separation on the interior walls .I now that I will refer a structural engineer ,but I was looking for some input .would have sent pick but I have to resize them. Thanks in advance.

What kind of foundation do you have there? Slab? Crawl? Basement? Reinforced concrete? Masonry?

Are cracks in the chimney or the foundation? They are separate entities.
Are they near the corner? Like a few feet away from where the downspouts have been draining next to the house for 40 years? Is there lateral movement? PICS PICS PICS

    First, welcome to this board.

Second, "definite foundation movement" does not fit in the same sentence thought as " with 2 hairline cracks", unless you are referring to two different things, i.e., "hairline cracks" do not equal "definite foundation movement".

The floor in the home is out of level all the way through and there is apparent movement because I found significant separation on the interior walls.
As others have asked, what type of floor construction? Slab? Monolithic? Or floating slab inside stem walls?

Thanks for the replies I have been in appraisal school all day.The foundation is a slab on grade , the 2 cracks are in front of the home one on each side of a doorway about one foot to the left and one foot to the right of the entrance, they are separate entities.cracks are in the foundation not the chimney,no lateral movement and no gutters or downspouts. The cracks on the brick are near a corner, the cracks in the slab are in the middle of the home

    Chuck,

Are the foundation cracks in the same area as the separated interior wall?

Billy yes they are but the separation in the interior wall is in the middle of the home and the cracks were found in the front of the home.
