Marion Berry's House
Okay, not really but this is what I figure his crawl space would have looked like.

What is all this powder? I'm thinking some type of rodent poison? Whatever it is I wanted no part of crawling through it. Any ideas????

Re: Marion Berry's House
Might be lime (not the fruit). Around here, if there is a broken waste pipe and sewage spill, lime will be used to help kill any bacteria after the crawlspace has been mucked out. Dunno if it works.

If that was Marion Barry's house, there wouldn't be a spec of white powder to be found without a powerful magnifying glass.

Here's a site with some amusing quotes from the former Mayor of Our Nation's Capital. Who knows if they're true.

Actual quotes taken from Mayor Marion Barry

That was good, Thankyou for the laugh. No idea on the stuff. But I would put some in a bag and recommend the buyers have it tested.

Re: Marion Berry's House
Hello Gents:

I’m on board with Gunnar. It is probably lime, and I too have seen it spread after a sewerage leak.

My opinion: BAD IDEA!

Fascinating to think that homeowners freak out upon learning of the presence of harmless mould in their crawler, but don’t seem to be bothered about the presence of a particularly nasty compound (calcium hydroxide). Whereas I would not necessarily recommend the removal of mould from a crawlspace, I would definitely recommend abatement of this hazardous material from a crawlspace.

But that’s just me. Others may disagree!

Cheers!
