Your best photos of last week/month
These were some of my best photos and images from last weeks inspection.
The bedroom and IR Image noted an out let that was overheating with the wire extending into the inaccessible attic... then we have 2 beams that have split the support post.

Hey Rick down in my neck of the woods, south of Ft. Worth, we are getting gas at 2.58 per gallon. It would be nice if things could stay this way for a while.

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
Ain't it amazing how we are conditioned to think $2.58 is cheap now, even though is is double what we paid in 2005 before Katrina?

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
The lowest gas prices around here are still over $3 gallon - $3.059.
Jim,
$3.00 is cheap compared to $4.00, but still a bit above what I paid while in high school ... $0.239 and down to $0.169 in gas wars!

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
Yep, I still remember pumping gas and cleaning windshields before I could get a "real" job when gas was 21.9 cents or 19.9 during a gas war in the late '60's. Then just after I started driving the 1973 oil embargo and gas rationing. (man I must be getting old)

Jim I'm in the same boat. Remember when MINI service started? Anyhow, .29 was high and that was premium when I started. No such thing as unleaded.

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
You older than I am?
Amoco had 'white gas', remember it? That was "unleaded". That's what we used to buy to fill those Coleman camp stoves and lanterns, we were warned not to use leaded gas in them, so you had to go to the Amoco stations and get their "white gas", which was (of course) Premium.
Anyone else remember that "white gas"?

"Anyone else remember that "white gas"?"
Oh yeah, I remember white gas. I think it had 103 octane.

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
Yes! I had to use it in a Yamaha 2-cyc motorcycle along with PURE outboard motor oil. I had the engine heads shaved for some dumb teenager reason and trying to run on anything else resulted in instant trashing of spark plugs. And, like you said, that's what people used for camp lanterns and stoves.
The above statements are expressed solely as my opinion and in all probability will conflict with someone else's.

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
I still have one of those camp heaters. I used to buy the cans of white gas at Kmart. We didn't sell it at the gas stations. Not in the city anyhow.

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
Remember gas at .29/9, 3.3 galons for a buck, smokes were .23 a pack, and Sunoco had the mix your own blend thing going.......you turned a dial to select your octane rating. Never figured out if it acttually worked, was just their gimmick

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
We still have Kerosene pumps here. Don't you all?
When I was a teenager I worked at a couple of gas stations. Forgot I had a cigarette in my mouth one time and started pumping a ladies gas. She got out of her car and ran across the parking lot. Did not figure it out till after I was done pumping .
I still remember thinking that I knew it all and nothing would of happened smoking anyway. Luckily I did not learn the hard way.

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
great photos
I always thought it was a spark/flame that ignited gas fumes , ever since i saw a friend put out butts in a cup of gas. The gas might as well been water.
I think the no smoking advice around fuel dispencers has to do with lighting the butt.
It's always sooo tempting to see how much gas is left in a tank with the light from a match.
Opening a drum that had some violatile in it with cold chisel ,cutting torch, sawsall .. bad too

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
I see those in a lot of older homes. I write them up all the time. Obviously the homes have not burned down in all those decades but they are a heavy safety issue. If for nothing else, a little kid could turn the valve and it not get lit a boom, thats all she wrote. I suggest removal. If they say they like them I still write they same thing but add there want for them and suggest they have them checked by a gas man at minimum. Of course they tell them the same thing I did and most have them removed.

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
the new owner told me he was going to strip the bath down to the studs and remodle, the gas was off so no testing was done, did warn him of the ventless heater

Re: Your best photos of last week/month
As Ted mentioned the old ventless wall heaters are typical here in many older homes in this area.
I never understood the need to test them. They should be disabled.
Why test them only to tell them they should be removed?
