Just wonder if any of you guys use this. SeeSnake® micro™ Inspection Camera - RIDGID Professional Tools

I absolutely love mine, even though I am an HVAC guy I think it would be beneficial as well to an HI.

It whips a borescope hands down IMHO.

I'm in the process of hacking one into a chimney top inspection tool at the moment - in a few weeks I'll let you know if I have a new tool or a pile of pieces.....

Hey, for a tool that is under $300 that can be used like a borascope(sp), we need to investigate. I wonder if they are only available via mail order.

Well I just did a search and it says that in my area Granger and Home Depot will have it or can order it.

One thing to note: the "snake" end is larger than on some borescopes.

The Grainger Rep in my area just quoted me a price of $206.00. I am seriously thinking of getting one. There are definately a lot of uses for this. Off the top of my head I can think of times when you need to see around the back of a air handler plenum to check for leaks etc..

Michael,

The See Snake is extendable to 30 feet (with the extensions) ... that does not say it is extendable. Seems to me that being able to add extensions would be a huge plus.

I have one extension. I've used my SeeSnake three times at inspections, at one of those the extra 3' was very useful (confirmed by observing the exposed end of a displaced section of duct that the HVAC duct in a slab was clay tile (!) rather than transite.)

That said, a video output would be VERY useful, as it is I'm reduced to taking (lousy) pictures of the the SeeSnake display.

And there is no way to take a snap shot of what it is showing?

I would think a video would be cumbersome and not good for HIs use - how would you include the video in the report (unless you gave the report out on CD)?

I gave my report out on CD for a long time, then went to e-mail and downloading off my web site. I did the CD when I did reports on site, burned the report and all photos to the CD right there. Stopped when I stopped doing on-site reports.

The point of the video output is that you can capture still "frames" on most mid to high end digital still cameras.

Except that you are feeding it to your computer, not to your camera, right?

I know, there is software which will capture individual frames from video, however, video resolution on most things is poor resolution, you just don't notice if with the movement (except some low resolution formats - even then, in video, it's acceptable, a still frame would be unintelligible).

I am surprised that the See Snake does not have a still capture feature or a feed to a computer to capture a still (don't need to capture a video - which is what I thought you were referring to).
