    Default AC Placement

Does this AC unit have enough or proper clearance? I included it in my report but it wasn't cited for the re-inspection. It may be due to the room isn't in use at this time. But, nonetheless, is it proper? I didn't measure for clearance, although, I think you can see in the photo, there is none. Kirk

    Man, thats a depressing site.

That condensing unit has no clearances as needed. It should be a minimum of 3" off grade. Looks as if the soil is in contact with the unit.

The preachers pulpit needs to be removed over the top of the unit to assure proper ventilation.

But by the looks and age of that condensing unit, the HVAC contractor should correct all of those items when he replaces it anyway.

Snow and its nearly May. How do youse guys handle that? I'd have to pack it up and move south.

Rick, I think I had done that one in February. The snow's gone now. John, yes, that is a window unit.

Window unit or though-wall unit? Makes a difference.

Windows are only about 1/8" thick, walls are about 10" thick.

Installing a window unit in a wall will block half or more of the vents, which looks like was done there.

Clearance? To ground? No, it should not rest on, nor be partially buried in, the ground. I've never seen a window or through-wall unit (or even a regular condenser unit) rated for 'direct burial'.

Although, this one appears to be an excellent candidate for COMPLETE burial!
