FHA Fee Inspection for new construction - InspectionNews

I was contacted by a builder to do an FHA Inspection (initial, intermediate and final) at a new construction site. He is going to build 55 condos on the lot. He is going to pour foundation in two weeks. What price should be given? I gave a $125 per unit charge and he flipped out! Anyone know how to deal with this? What is a fair price for this type of inspection?

Are you listed as a fee paid inspector on the HUD/FHA site? If not, your inspections will not satisfy the HUD/FHA requirement.

I agree with Scott ... why would you change your name for this forum?

The only reason I can think of is because you have some reason to hide your real identity, in which case, we dis-like associating with criminals.

I get $75 for a final only and they are glad to pay it. They only take about 15 minutes to do so it's gravy. There are not many of us around, they should be happy they found someone to do them. IMHO $125 per unit is low if that is for all the inspections, ground, top out, and final. That's a lot of visits and time for 55 units. You know they will not all be ready to inspect at one go. You will be going back and back and back again just to get through one phase. And that's assuming they pass. I doubt they will. Corrections cost more. Re-inspects cost more. Get that all in writing. Just like in building, "no additional work without a signed change order".

Tell them "good luck finding someone else" and see how they act.
If they do find someone else, let them go out of business trying to do them for that price or go break their legs so they can't do them.

My FHA Final fee is between $350 & $400 ... depending upon mileage.

Been at that rate for the past 2-years.

Currently have 6 FHA Finals scheduled for this month, 4 more booked for April and will likely add 3-4 more yet this month.

Have already completed 3 for this month.

Kind of varies with quantity, but not bad work.

When I signed up on 2002 I seem to recall that $125 was the standard for fee inspections. SOP was that you could tack on travel expense. In 2009, the banks don't seem to mind $250 so that what we charge unless its more than 40 miles then we add travel expenses.

One of my problems is that they are not building any homes within 30 mile of me that fit the FHA price.

$275 to $350 is the going price in my area.

Scott, How do you get listed as a fee paid inspector on HUD/FHA site?

I've looked into HUD training etc. but it didn't seem worth it. What are the requirements to get listed?

Go to this site HUD FHA Inspectors & 203(k) Consultants

Fill out the application and send it in. The requirements are listed on the application.

FHA Fee Inspection - Anyone know what the going rate is in Arizona, I'm charging $125. I don't want to be the cheapest guy in town!

UPDATE:
I'm now charging KB Homes $150 per final since they screwed with my money too long. LOL Suck it up Baby!
