Water heater flue connection

I have never seen this type of hook up before. The water heater flue is connected to a large flue going into chimney coming from a wood stove burner in the basement. If I read the code check correctly it states water heater flue pipe cannot be connected to masonry chimney through a solid wood burning flue fireplace/heater as shown in this picture I took. Is this correct?

can't mix solid fuel and gas ,,you are corect
