Hi all! I'm looking for some help identifying this black liquid coming from behind water fixtures? I've only seen it once before. See attached picture.Thoughts? Recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Could be some type of insect bait such as roach bait etc.

I will guess a leaky sewer line...

I agree with Frank. Its looks like some of the roach bait gel we used to use.

Leaky sewer lines don't run uphill on a wall as such.

That's where it started...and ran downhill. I've seen oakum joints leak that type of oily substance. Nice try though.

I hope not on a supply line!

My bet is on bug bait.

I'm thinking some John Carpenter horror film where the walls start bleeding.

Being that the stain is also on the escutcheon I would guess that something stored under the sink leaked.

Clearly, it's a pest control gel applied to the wall penetrations. Very common in this area. The "goo" is applied via a syringe around any pipe, penetration, or opening.

I have never seen a bug man make a mess like that. They should be ashamed of themselves for being so unprofessional if that is what is shown in the picture.

Did it taste like bug gel, or pipe dope?

Maybe it was the home owner that made the mess

If its on the Hot water side as it looks like it is you can get fumes from the heat. and should be noted in your report.

Any time I see any petroleum or other type materials applied I call it out...

Had a contractor put Copper green on some hot water pipes when he was treat some adjacent framing and the fumes from the stuff got the lady of the house sick. Bad news for him... that was like 30 years ago and I never forgot that...

Best
