real issue with brick on the last couple of inspections and just tying to check what everyone else is doing?

Undetermined cause but suspect the brick shelf broke.

I'm assuming there is a block or concrete foundation behind the brick. I would suspect the crack is due to differential expansion between the different materials due to changes in moisture or temperature.

I didn't think of that. That's why your an engineer and I'm "just an inspector".

Cracking due to downspout drainage next to the home.
