Here's another to identify
I took this photo in an attic of an all electric home a couple of weeks ago. It was 130 degrees in the attic and I spent as little time as necessary in the attic but noticed these units and took this photo. The best I can recall they were connected to the all electric HVAC. Haven't determined what they were for...any idea ?

So you don't have to climb a ladder in the attic to set the temp the fans come on.

That is not a thermostat, it's a timer called the AirCycler model FR (www.aircycler.com/AirCyclerFR.html).
They are designed to run the air handler blower for a period of time each hour if neither the furnace nor the A/C has kicked in. Usually, the idea is to use the blower to bring in fresh air through a scuttle from the outside to meet a ventilation guideline such as ASHRAE 62.2 in tight houses. We can't tell what these AirCyclers are controlling in this particular application.

Need to leave a space at each end of it for it to work.

Looks like the ComboStat. (underlining is mine)
"
INSTALLING YOUR AirCycler STATThe AirCycler STAT should be installed in a"
central location away from any direct airflow
from air vents.
The other ones state: (underlining is mine)
"
INSTALLING YOUR AirCyclerThe AirCycler’s unobtrusive design"
allows you to install it anywhere in your
home. It can be installed near a
thermostat, for example, or out of view
near the air handler unit.
I see NOTHING in there about installing it OUTSIDE the home (i.e., "in the attic"). Thus it is not installed in accordance with its installation instructions.

Man I like the netting on the walls to hold the insulation in place. Never see that here. Find insulation falling out all the time. It should be a requirement everywhere.
