New garbage disposer
I was going to call out this garbage disposer, a new Insinkerator, because it was not responding to the wall switch. Luckily the owner was home and he saved me from embarassment. And hopefully I can do the same for some of y'all.
These new food grinders need the lid installed the right way down. A magnet in the stopper activates the grinder. FYI.

Re: New garbage disposer
Those aren't "new", those have been around for a long time.
The normal garbage disposer you see is referred to as a "continuous" garbage disposal (actually they are "food waster grinders". They are "continuous" because you run the water and "continuously" add the food waster to it as it grinds the food waster up and spits it out.
That type you found today are referred to as "batch" garbage disposals because you load a "batch" of food waste, add water, install the stopper and the disposal is then ready to operate.

It was new to me, for some reason.

Re: New garbage disposer
Nope. Guess I had my head under somebody's sink.
Hey I did see some of that, but the thread drift apparantly threw me off. Yesterday was my first batch disposer.
Most poeple here are putting their food scraps out on the curb for a weekly pickup.
New houses don't just automatically come with a food disposer. They are oh so very passa-ay.

Re: New garbage disposer
While we don't have coyotes in Ormond Beach we do have bears, in fact we have had bears in our neighborhood a few time, and they will pull the strapped on lid off garbage cans to the point that we now keep the garbage cans in the garage overnight.
I saw a bear last fall between our house and our neighbor - at first I thought it was a man roaming through the neighborhood and called the police and they went out to drive around looking for him, I realized it was likely not a person I saw who was standing upright behind the bushes, then dropped down and ran off, it was a bear. That was in the dark of night, the next day there were reports of a bear roaming our neighborhood during the day.
So, bringing thread drift back to the food waste grinder ... ... we use our "continuous" style garbage disposer all the time.

Re: New garbage disposer
Bush bears stay away, town bears get trapped or shot, no coyotes on this island, coons are pretty sharp, but the bin has a latch, seems to work.
The biggest obstacle is the smell of rotting meat and fish at the compost plant. Nobody wants that in their backyard. So some of the muni's are trucking the stuff out to overloaded facilities elsewhere. Bottom line is less pressure on the sewer systems.
